Dr. Rohit G. Bhat, an orthopedic surgeon with a fellowship in hand and microsurgery, was recently inducted into service at a simple ceremony at Benaka Hospital, Ujire. Welcoming Dr. Rohit G. Bhat.., The Medical Director of Benaka Hospital, Dr. Gopalakrishna, highlighted the vital role of hand and wrist microsurgeons in treating traumatic injuries such as thumb or finger amputations, severe lacerations of blood vessels, and serious tendon or nerve injuries. He emphasized that Benaka Hospital will now provide hand and finger reconstruction services for severely injured fingers and wrists. Finger injuries are common among agricultural and construction workers in rural areas due to accidents, as well as in road mishaps. In such cases, treatment, reattachment, and reconstruction of fingers must be performed within the golden period for optimal outcomes. Dr. Rohit G. Bhat, son of Dr. Gopalakrishna and Dr. Bharathi of Benaka Hospital, Ujire, is a meritorious student who earned his MBBS from Mysore Medical College and his MS in Orthopaedics from Government Medical College, Kota, Rajasthan, where he received a gold medal. He recently completed his Fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery at Apollo Hospital, Bangalore, under the guidance of renowned hand and microsurgeon Dr. Darshan Kumar Jain. A fellowship in hand and microsurgery is an advanced training program focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of hand and fingertip conditions. During this period, doctors acquire expertise in various surgical techniques, including microsurgery, nerve repair, and hand reconstruction. Hand surgery is a relatively new specialty in India, and Dr. Rohit expressed his heartfelt happiness at being able to offer specialized medical services in his native place.
